I used to get a 'ADSP init failed', with very long module-load times,
but the problem went away when I tried to extract the microcode from
another windows driver.

Are you sure your windows-microcode extraction procedure went OK?
Check your md5 sums, and compare with those in the README.

Also, make sure you use the latest CVS version of the kfir driver code.
