yes, that's the Idea.
 - when vdr calls the shutdown script (/usr/local/bin/vdrshutdown), it
   tells when the next timer would start
 - the shutdown script calls nvram-wakeup
 - nvram-wakeup sets the wake up time to 5 minutes before this event
 - the shutdown skript calls the actual shutdown procedure.

of course, first you have to configure nvram-wakeup to work with your
mainboard and to make sure that it really does. (see README for details
how to do so)
