this is the same here, i use a 2.1 DVB-S in the beginning (of my vdr
"adventures" ;)
the driver had a "bug" in it which led to nearly no volume, even with
volume set to 255, so perhaps ist possible to tweak the driver to get a
more linear volume "flow".

AFAIK the volume is set in the driver/dvb.c function "int static
SetVolume" (line 1524ff. in my version). If you have a 2.1 card you have
an Crystal A-DAC.
