1. vdr writes as PES, Elecard can play this directly from windows, mplayer for linux
2. vdr-file converted with pvastrumento or ds.jar to PS -> nearly every software dvdplayer  (win,mac,linux) can play those files (i don´t speak about normal standalone players - thats much more comlicated because transcoding to dvd-conform format can be involved)
