[vdr] Re: Beginner questions

Hi Jörg,

>> What is FBAS?
>Composite = chinch cable out = color and brightness on one cable.

Not quite ;o)) Actually composite contains all signals (sync,
eg., too) Considering that CVBS mixes all signals, it has quite
an astonishing quality.

>Professional users/video enthusiasts prefer S-Video output
> because color

No ;o)) Profs use RGB. Whilst S-Video is better than composite,
you are still muxing signals and more over your TV has to take
all that "trash" apart again. Using RGB you can bypass some 30%
of the circuits in your TV as the CRT itself is driven by R G B. So
not only do you improve quality by using R G B Sync (i.e seperate
signals), but you further improve the quality by bypassing
all unneeded circuitry.

>>>How/why would I use more than one card?

Well, one more reason is that if you record an encryted channel,
you can *only* watch this channel if you are a single DVB card
user. So using more than one DVB card does have it's advantages.

>>> How do I know what hardware revision the card uses?

Get a 1.6 ;o)) In my opinion it is the *only* way to fly, uhm
I mean watch TV ;o))

>You only get the latest versions in the stores.

No, the 1.6 is still sold. Better tuner than the 1.3, doesn't
emit as much heat, has J2 and a mpeg 2 chip. What more
does one need ;o))

Greetz,
Reinhard
