channels. However, after starting a recording, these bit
errors went away.

If you have problems on all channels on that transponder it sounds much
like the good old dect-phone-next-to-cable-problem. May that be the
cause?

My DECT phone station is about 6 meters and two walls away from the VDR server.
I don't think it is responsible for the problem.
wheew, 6 metres, it should be able to transmit 30 metres in this enviroment, so nope, 6 metres and 2 walls is nothing for a dect phone!
and it might still be responsible, also remember the sattelite cables might run closer to a dect phone (not even you own one!) that you think.

I don't know yet what triggers the problem, but when it happend last (I
think around midnight of 18/19 may) I managed again to make things work by
doing the following:

The bad channel in that case was Pro7. I switched to RTL and started to
record it. I then switched to WDR3 and started to record it. After that, I
switched again to Pro7 and the problem was gone. Stopping the still running
recording on WDR3 didn't harm then. As all this has absolutely no influence
on my DECT phone and this "starting two recordings and stopping them again"
procedure fixed the problem at least three times now, I don't think it is
DECT related.
good point, but that still leaves some doubts:
the FE always tunes a little bit diffrent (auto fine tuning?), dect phones switch frequenzies very often, the FEC and bitstream error correction in the mpeg2 hardware sometimes are enough to recover a picture, sometimes not.

When I saw the problem for the first time, I couldn't see Pro7 at all (black
screen) and VDR did not record anything! What confuses me is that the tech
patch showed bit errors when the problem happened.
what would hint to interferences, like dect _or_ your sat-switch
is not always cleanly switching (14/18 volt;22khz)....

This sounds a bit ambitious but just for kicks you could try the patch I submitted earliert (save your remux.c beforeand and copy it back if it doesn't make a difference). I have the suspicion that mux (on Astra 19.2.E?) is also experimenting with VBR / statmux and might confuse the decoder.
hmm could well be, vh-1 also made trouble.
but i have even more trouble with autopid patch, when i record on 2nd interface, without recording on first.
If i record on first and second all is ok.
Without autopid it also ok.

I'll give it a try if the problem occurs again. Since I'm very busy this can
take some time.

Thanks, ciao,

Tobias

Cheers Onno

P.S.
i have a CTplus, a CT1 and 3 DECT phones "found" in our house,
2 upstairs (2 and 3 metres from sat cables, now double shielded)
2 at my parents flat (both relocated to farest room from me)
1 my own CTplus has now an analog only replacement and the base
station is now under the roof, the handset is off, unless i
recieve a call indicated by the analog phone

and yes, out sat cables where cheap .......
and yes, next tme i promisse to by better shielded cables :-)
