for me there a too workarounds now.
1) not using overlay at all (but using grabbing).
- pro: you can use your agp card
- con: lower fps.

2) not using an agp card, but pci. this is what i do at the moment...
- pro: you can use overlay (what a luxus..)
- con: no agp card.. one pci slot occupied

but i will test it with future kernel versions, etc. in the future...

i think i won´t buy via chipset motherboards anymore. looking at via forums, one can come 
to the impression they regularly play around with mobo chipset bugfixes with their 4in1 
driver packge (windows) ...; linux users do not get this fixes....
