I have 2.5.9. Because I didn't think this should make much difference, I
checked the source package (this is a SuSE 9.0 system) and found it
includes a patch named trailing-cr-fix.diff which may indicate a problem
in the handling of CRs. Some of the original files in vdrc had a mixture
of CR/LF and LF line endings and even some spurious CRs not at the end
of the line which confused me and I removed all CRs globally. This may
give the problem you see.
