My experience for 640x480 resolution is that P IV 2.6 HT is enough.  P
IV 2.4 provides some video glitches but audio is OK.  These with quite
good deinterlacing and ATI fglrx.  Without the proprietary fglrx the
video had some problems even with P IV 2.6 HT.  For higher resolutions
this was not enough.  (so the graphics card does matter)
