I'm using the xine plugin very successfully on a Athlon XP1700 with a 
NVidia Geforce 4MX.
Using the nvidia.com driver had a very positive performance impact 
because auf the xvmc architecture.
CPU utilization is usually around 20-25%.

Also i did a experiment with a EPIA Nehemia 1GHz and the hardware mpeg 
drivers from unichrome.sf.net.
Its not completely stable but it looks very promising. CPU is also about 
20-30% in this scenario.

A friend is using the plugin with a Athlon64 3000 and a ATI card,  using 
a proper configured x.org driver was way enough to get a good performance.

And, btw, the resolution for all 3 configurations is1024x768 or even 
1280x1024 for the nvidia/athlon XP case.
