Well as I wrote before I only have this on Astra HD whenever the loop repeats.
Maybe I can detect a buffer underrun and reactivate "soft start" in that case.

Is there / Will there be a API to query the transfer buffer's fill level from 
within a replay device like vdr-xine?

Debugging VDR's new buffer handling I've been watching HDTV for quite some
time. HD1 now also broadcasts PIONEER promotion and other stuff. That's why I 
was confused.
