[linux-dvb] Audio distortion with CS4341 (was: Sounddistortion

Usenet-372110@zocki.toppoint.de(Rainer Zocholl)  11.08.01 01:23

Once upon a time Rainer Zocholl shaped the electrons to say...

>(Ralph Metzler)  10.08.01 in linux-dvb@zocki.toppoint.de:

>>>  - The sound chip on the SKYSTAR 1 V1.5 TT2000.8
>>>    is a "CS4341-KS EP"
>>> CS4341: 24-Bit, 96 kHz Stereo DAC with Volume Control

>>insmod dvb.o adac=1 ...

>Watching "tagesthemen" (for example that is no effect on MTV
>or so and such a voice signal is not so complex)
>peaks in the audio signal wraps arround instead of beeing clipped.

>Instead of +1,4V in the peak (clipped) -1,4V came out
>of the DAC when the sound was becoming loud.
>Can easily been seen on Oscilloscope.

It happens only in channels which are very loud.
("ARD Das Erste" for example )

Using the "original" software the audio output signal is
much smaler at all.

Using the TI-Chip-Card (V2.1) the audio seems
to be OK, AFAI could test.

 - Is the card broken? (by design?)
 - Or is that a software problem?
   (The CS-Chip seems to have an other offset values)
 - Is there a way/place to set the default volume
   as a workarround?
