[linux-dvb] Re: ATSC?

Hi Matt--

A good place to find information on these cards is AVS Forum
(www.avsforum.com). Do a search in the home theater computers section and
you'll have a couple of days of reading. ;-) Most of the info is regarding
Windows. There is precious little open source code, since the HD decoder
cards on the market are based on the Teralogic TL880 decoder/bridge, and
Teralogic has been tight with the info.

If you are interested in doing some hardware coding for these cards, the
WinTV-D is an excellent and inexpensive choice. It uses the Fusion 878A PCI
bridge. If so, drop me a line, as I have a contact at Hauppauge who would
help us.

See the below for some chip lists.

I think that there is some open source demux code for Windows, which might
be somewhat portable to Linux.

As to your questions:

#1 -- Yes, you can. But the open source code isn't totally there.

#2 -- Probably not. The ATSC cards use different PCI bridges (either the
Teralogic TL880 or the Fusion 878A). So the project would have to accept
code for these bridges.

The adoption of ATSC is a boon rather than a curse. There is plenty of ATSC
hardware out there.

Good luck.

Regards--

Dan
