[linux-dvb] Re: card broken?

Hello Guido,

ist a little bit off topic to your problem, but i think i should explain my expieriences to this group.
I had also a strange behaviour with my DVB-s Cards. About two months ago, i observed distortions on the screen and i thought that it must be from a misaligned dish, caused by heavy storms in the winter. Now i checked the dish (alignment was perfect), cables, connectors; all was in top condition. Then i observed a thermal behaviour. After coldstart (5 mins off) the picture was ok, but after a few minutes, distortions came back. I checked the heat sink on tuner chip -> ok. I placed a cooling fan on top of the cards -> distortions stay.
The reason was:
I set up my box with a faster cpu (K6-2/550 than K6-266) for watching DVD and my power supply runs sligthly into current limitation and +12V- decrease about 1-2V. Yes, DVB-s card generates 14/18V for LNB from this voltage for switching/amplifying. I use the same case like Klaus Schmidinger - You can see it on Klaus' Homepage. This case contains only 200W power supply !

I hope this may prevent unnecessary work in power supply related errors with DVB-s cards in the future.
