Hmm. that is an interesting idea. However, to start up vdr
with any other option other than standard would require a
additional restart of vdr. I was hoping to avoid this. Couldn`t
I assign two buttons via irexec as you suggest, but let them
intervean BEFORE I start vdr?

If I don`t press a key ruvdr starts w/o options (which in
turn starts VDR). If I press say key "1", lirc gives this as a
parameter to runvdr, which in turn then would start the 
actual VDR with DVD & MP3. Would this be possible? I
have to admit I really haven't looked into lirc yet (during
testen & modding I use a hardwired keyboard. I am asking
for my future hookup ;o))
