outta bitstreamout 0.48pre8 INSTALL:

 * Required shm support.
   Activate shared memory filesystem in the kernel, then you won't
   need a /dev/shm fstab entry.
   Besides, the original shm is much faster than
   tmpfs mounted to /dev/shm.
   Then check if shm is available, execute "mount" and you should see a line
   like this:
         shmfs on /dev/shm type shm (rw)
