Maybe you find time to check the following change in line 36 of configure.ac:
-- test "$prefix" = NONE && mpeginc=/usr/local/include/mpeg2dec
++ test "$prefix" = NONE && mpeginc="/usr/local/include/mpeg2dec 
-I/usr/include/mpeg2dec"

and do an autoreconf after changing the configure.ac.
if it works for you, i'll put this into the next release.
