[vdr] VDR-BURN - what kills it after (about) ten minutes?

Having spent the last few days trying to work out why random bits of the 
process just quit, I finally grepped the system log and discovered the 
pattern - the watching process starts and about ten minutes(within about 
30 seconds) later finishes. It doesn't report any errors, but it does 
stop procesing at whatever stage it is at. VDR stays running, so it's 
not the watchdog, so what waits for ten minutes?
