[vdr] Re: softdevice and DirectFB with Matrox G450

It's not 4:3 I have the problem with, it's 16:9. Most of the TV here is
16:9 full-screen (720x576 with "anamorphic" stretched pixels AFAIK) and
softdevice is showing it with borders top and bottom and everything too
wide, as if it thinks my display is 4:3. It can also display
full-screen, but again everything is too wide as if it thinks it's a 4:3
display, and it crops the sides.

The trouble is TVs don't have square pixels (except NTSC 4:3 sets,
perhaps)! To my mind, softdevice with a Matrox should be the "perfect"
way of using VDR with a TV and budget TV card [1], and I'm sure it will
be once this 16:9 output scaling issue is sorted. It sounds like an
option to tell it your output pixel ratio would work well (eg Monitor,
4:3 TV, 16:9 TV; maybe two of each TV size for PAL/NTSC if the plugin
can't easily find PAL/NTSC from other settings).

Thanks. I can't try it just yet, but I do appreciate your doing that so
soon.

[1] DXR3 could nearly have that crown, but even if the DXR3 sync and OSD
problems are sorted soon, I don't think the (stereo) sound output is up
to scratch; even my £5 CrystalMedia sound card puts it to shame. And it
can't hope to be as good as the Matrox for playing DivX etc.
