Now that VDR can record an AC3 stream, as far as I have understood Klaus,
the next step for VDR would be to output the recorded AC3 data somehow on
the soundcard. I wanted to help a little bit and did some research on this
topic.

..., because I don't
belong to this 90% who own a Soundblaster, but I ordered one.

It should be very easy to integrate this code into VDR.

Ralf.

Arrgh,

ok admitted, Creative has the really big piece of the market, but there are
alternatives: Cmedia CMI8783 soundchip. Used for soundcards like Zoltrix
Nightingale offers
a direct Linux driver support (http://www.cmedia.com.tw.
The biggest clue: the soundcard & add-on board (with OPTICAL IN/OUT
TOSLINK-CONNECTORS and
INTERNAL DIGITAL SPDIF-IN) retails in Germany for ~25-45EUR.
In short: this card has it all, is supported and is a bargain.

In Germany http://www.pearl.de offers it for ~44EUR. Check the auctions for
better prices.

Considering the offered possibilities and the good price of this card it
would make very good sense to
support it.

Currently I have 2 running under W9x and have been totally satisfied so far
:)

Best,
Andreas
