Check the firmware path. Sometimes it is even /etc/firmware. Have a look 
in /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent for $FIRMWARE_DIRS.

I don't know mandrake, do you have any other drivers which needs a 
firmware? Is your hotplug system running correctly?
