[vdr] Re: How to get the VDR box silent

Hi Ondrej, Henning,

IMHO the dreambox sux. Have a look at their specs and compare what
VDR on a very minimal system can do & what the DB can. No
comparision eventhough they use a PowerPC cpu. Secondly this is simply
another halfheartily built box. The thing was supposed to be finished in
late 2001. Now, you can finally buy it, but the software is stil beta. Plus,
the software is NOT open source as they promised. Go figure..........

Sorry, but I'll have to disagree here. Both use SMPSUs and they ARE
efficient. Try getting 5V 40A (and the other V & A ratings) from an iron
cored (aka non SM) PSU. Then you will know what inefficient is ;o))
Really, the commercial STBs do NOT use any kind of black magic in
designing their PSUs. They (STB) DO, however, require less power, so
the PSU can be made more compact. I would even go so far to say
that a good (i.e Enermax) PC PSU is BETTER than those of the
commercial STBs.

BTW: Did you receive my update on the MM, that I sent you between
the holidays for info on the CIM part of your website?

Greetz,
Reinhard
