If you have a subtitle file with the same name as the movie mplayer will 
include the subtitle when you start
the movie, so changing the script is not necessary.
Like..
mymovie.avi and mymovie.sub

Works fine for me, but you probably need to download subtitle/OSD fonts 
from
www.mplayerhq.hu.
