I'm running vdr 1.3.12 on kernel 2.6.7 (from kernel.org)
There are only two things to do:

1. enable the DVB driver _and_ the OSD support in the kernel
2. download the right firmware for your card and save it in the right
~ location on your harddrive (or compile it into the driver)

That's all and it works fine ...

Hi,

I'm no developer but I use Linux 2.6 all the time. 2.4 was working, too, but I had a lot of good arguments to settle with 2.6. One of the best is cd/dvd burning.
At the moment it is Kernel 2.6.8.1 (gentoo-dev-sources) and VDR 1.3.12 (for quite some time now). VDR is mostly vanilla, I applied a patch to dvbdevice.c in order to prevent VDR from hanging when zapping channels (http://vdr-portal.de/board/thread.php?threadid=20248).

The whole thing is prime stable. And I must say that I totally like the kernel driver, I even got this weired feeling that the tuner is much "cooler" then with the drivers from 08.11.2003 (Kernel 2.4). It gets only lukewarm.
Admittedly I also have compiled glibc with the matching 2.6.8.1 kernel headers before I compiled VDR and its plugins so you might not want to call it an easy transition. Even my parents got VDR and kernel 2.6. I don't exactly remember what versions but it must be working great, because they haven't called for quite some time now, well, regarding VDR of course ;)

Thanks for all your work!

Sebastian
