I like that idea.
If I understand it right, it will also be useful
for a setup where you have several dishes pointing
in several directions, each dish feeding exactly one 
DVB-S card without switches, Diseqc, etc.?

Also, many people should now be able to use your 
generic channels.conf as released with the VDR source?

In this case, I suggest that the Schedule and Channels
menus mask out channels that are not supported by
the current configuraion and that the Channel Up/Down
remote control commands automatically skip to the next
supported channel.
