[vdr] Re: silent hdd



...just sharing the wealth on hard drives...

Maxtor had a utility that will slow the drive down in favor of silencing the
drive.  I had encountered it while working with a 46GB model.  The tool was
model specific.

Also regarding warranties - Maxtor, Western Digital, and Seagate have ALL
lowered the standard warranties (from 3 years) to 1 year (which took effect
last month October 1st).  (as I've found so far, only Western Digital offers
an additional 2 years for $19(US) per drive).  Details can be found on all
three respective web sites under the sections that state the warranties in
question.  No longer are hard drive manufacturers offering standard 3 year
warranties.
