This card is widely available on ebay shipping from China, and looks similar to a TBS QBox II (probably a knockoff), but the hardware is not the same.

Reports are that this is pretty much (or identical) to the DVBSKY S860. DVBHD claim to be affiliated with TeVii however.

Linux drivers provided on the CD are an old (2010) snapshot of the Liplianin tree with the BST patches applied, filename s2-liplianin-8c8997d531c6_BST_0911.zip. This seems to be the basis of the live CD that boots into Chinese HTPC software, but this is too old for modern kernels.

To make this card work (as of Kernel 3.3) you need to apply the patches from DVBSKy's website, which is the "BST" patch-set. Because this card is similar to the S860, these drivers work.

This card does seem to work in Linux, although occasionally locks up the system temporarily in MythTV.

Identification

lsusb shows this as:

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0572:6830 Conexant Systems (Rockwell), Inc.

DVBHD 2080U DVB-S2

Bestunar BS6830

Markings on the box itself just say "S2 Box", with a bunch of logos.

Kernel modules

  • dw2102
  • m88ds3103 (even though it's a DS3000, the ds3000 module that's in the kernel already seems outdated, and this one from DVBSky is backwards compatible)

Components

  • USB bridge: Conexant Systems ???
  • Demodulator: Montage M88DS3000
  • RF: Montage M88TS2020

Firmware

  • dvb-fe-ds300x.fw (available from DVBSky's website)

Hints

  • Make sure you plug the power in (and get the green light) before connecting the USB, otherwise the DS3000 (Montage) chip won't be found by the driver and you'll be lacking a frontend0
