I've tried such things, well the output is done via the normal RGB-output
and the sync is non-standard, but the image really looks great, better
than any TV-out I've ever seen before.
In "Computtertreff" from November (or December) 1993 you will see Dr.
Klein presenting a 3d graphics software package. You might notice he's
using a Commodore 1541 Monitor on a PC. And next to the PC is a large box
with BNC-Plugs. I'm rather sure he's tricked his graphics card into
outputting something more-or-less PAL-like and then using the large box
(probably a fullframe TBC) to get a perfect broadcast-quality signal.
Look at that show to see how well it worked.

Ohh beamers can't be that expensive, even the americans can afford them on
their spaceships.

Well seriously, you can get decent video-projectors for 400Euro (used).
Those use CRTs and give you a lot better image than those cheap LCD ones.
If treated well, they might survive you.
