Just think of XEmacs.

You have XEmacs. And there are 100.000 Add-on-Packages. And there is the
huge "Sumo"-Package which is (nearly) all Add-on-Packages in one.

Seems like someone should stand up and make the VDR-"Sumo"-Package.

Real Programmers consider "what you see is what you get" to be just as
bad a concept in Text Editors as it is in women. No, the Real Programmer
wants a "you asked for it, you got it" text editor -- complicated,
cryptic, powerful, unforgiving, dangerous.
