Just install a linux 2.4.18 kernel, and use my binary 2.4.18 modules.
It contains the microcode files as well.
My 2.4.18 kernel has built-in v4l and i2c bitbanging.

If this still causes problems, you could start doubting the hardware.
Does your card work under windows?

get the binary module at http://www.stolk.info/kfir/

Use these module opts in /etc/modules:

#kfir mpeg encoder
saa7113
kfir vidsize=0x26 vidinput=0 vidrate=2000000 sndfreq=6 debug=1 delays=0
