Yes, that's what the mplayer-plugin is for...

I very much doubt that, as mplayer -afaik- still lacks (decent) dvd-menu
support. Mplayer also lacks support for e.g. switching the language or
skipping to the next chapter or skipping to the next title or ...

Please contribute to fixing the vdr-dvd plugin - either with bug-reports
or code.
